A Song For You
Leon Russell

I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme
I've acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I've treated you unkindly but darlin' can't you see
There's no one more important to me
Darlin' can't you please see through me
Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets
of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets
of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

Everybody Loves A Clown
Garrett, Russell & Lewis

Everybody loves a clown so why don't you?
Everybody laughs at the things that I say and do.
They all laugh when they see me comin',
But you don't laugh, you just go home runnin'!
Everybody loves a clown so why can't you?
A clown has feelings, too.

I joke around at a party when you are there,
But you don't laugh, you don't look, you just don't care.
If you wonder why this clown is crying
Look a little closer, inside I'm dying!
It's not easy to be in love, you see,
When you're a clown like me.

I don't know how to say that I love you,
'Cause you would smile and say "Tell a joke or two.".
Yes, I'm a clown, but I don't wanna be,
Why can't you see the other side of me?
Guess I'll be the guy who plays the part
Of a clown with a broken heart,
Dreamin' of your love and not knowin' where to start.

Lady Blue
Leon Russell

Well you're showing me a diff'rent side
Even asked if the flame has died
You're getting used to me baby
But you just a-wait and see lady
'Cause I've been in love before
And I love you a whole lot more
So if you want it to be real good to you
When I'm layin' here makin' love to you
Listen real close to me baby
I want to get it straight right now oh baby
'Cause I love you more and more and more
Lady blue

Sad lady, blue lady
Sing me a love song
I just want you to know that I love you
More and more and more and more

So if you want it to be real good to you
When I'm layin' here makin' love to you
Listen real close to me baby

You just a-wait and see lady
I got a whole lot of love to give you
I got a whole life to spend if you'll just
Let me sing sweet love songs
Lady blue, oh sing a love song
Lady blue

The ballad of Mad Dogs and Englishmen
Leon Russell

Kids, planes and runway strikes
Flashy pimps and fam'ly fights
Spotted dogs and bloodshot eyes
Our space captain laughs and tries
To understand the scheme of things
Just in time the scene has changed
The bus is here
Bring the beer
Sherman's reading Shakespeare
Movie makers, boobie shakers
And saxy airplane ticket takers
Union members
Leo Fender's pride and joy
Electric toy
Teachers, learners
Incense burners
Religious leaders and chronic bleeders
Thieves and pirates on a ride
It's a hippie commune bonafide
Life and time
War death dealers
Rock pop correspondence feelers
But okies and limeys
Curtain climbers
Stones and future Dominoes
Know which way the wind blows
Stolen Cola no one knows
The shadow do
But it's still a shady crew
'Cause I love her and she loves you
Just myself and forty friends
In the name of Cocker Power
Out here on the road again
With Mad Dogs and Englishmen.

Magic mirror
Leon Russell

Standing by the highway suitcase by my side
No place I want to go, I just thought I'd catch a ride

Many people look my way and many pass me by
In moments of reflection, I wonder why

To the thieves I am a bandit,
the mothers think I'm a son
To the preachers I'm a sinner, Lord, I'm not the only one

To the sad ones I'm unhappy, the losers think I'm a fool
To the students I'm a teacher,
with the teachers I'm in school

To the hobos I'm imprisoned, by everything I own
To the soldiers I'm just someone else
who's dying to go home

The general sees a number. A politician's tool.
To my friends I'm just an equal in this whirlpool

Magic Mirror
Won't you tell me, please
Do I find myself in anyone I see
Magic Mirror
If we only could
Try to see ourselves as others would

To policemen I'm suspicious, it's in the way I look
I'm just another character to fingerprint and book
To the censor I'm pornography with no redeeming grace
To the hooker, I'm a customer without a face
And the sellers think I'm merchandise,
they'll have for a song
The left ones think I'm right.
The right ones think I'm wrong.

And many people come my way, and many pass me by
In my quiet reflection I wonder why

Magic Mirror
Won't you tell me, please
Do I find myself in anyone I see
Magic Mirror if we only could
Try to see ourselves as others would.

Down in the flood
Leon Russell

Now the story came down,
on a right side of town
When I saw the water rising on the levee
And the wind is just so cold,
like this life I've found
Living, just to die when the story's told

There's a scream in the night
And it's a crying sound
Chills my blood right to the bone
There's a fire on the hill,
and water down below
True love is gone down in the flood
It's a chance that you take
When there's no place to go
When true love has gone down in the flood

And there's a fire on the hill,
and water down below
True love is gone down in the flood
It's a chance that you take
When there's no place to go
When true love has gone down in the flood.

Delta Lady
Leon Russell

Woman of the country now that I found you
Longing for your soft and fertile delta
and I whisper sighs to satisfy your longing
for the warm and tender shelter of your body
Oh Delta Lady

your mine, yes your mine Delta Lady
your mine, be all mine
Delta Lady

Please don´t ask how many times I found you
standing wet and naked in the garden
and I think of the days
and the different ways I held you
we were closely touching, yes our heart was beating

your mine, yes your mine Delta Lady
your mine, be all mine
Delta Lady

Oh when I'm home again in England
I think of you my love
cause, I love you, love

there are concrete mountains in the city
and pretty city women live inside them
Oh but yet it seems the city scene is lacking
I'm so glad your waitiong for me the country

your mine, yes your mine Delta Lady
your mine, be all mine
Delta Lady.

This Masquerade
Leon Russell
Are we really happy with this lonely game we play
Looking for the right words to say
Searching but not finding
understanding anyway
We're lost in this masquerade

Both afraid to say we're just too far away
From being close together from the start
We tried to talk it over but the words got in the way
We're lost inside this lonely game we play

Thoughts of leaving disappear
Each time I see your eyes
No matter how hard I try
To understand the reason why we carry on this way
We're lost in this masquerade

We tried to talk it over but the words got in the way
We're lost inside this lonely game we play

Thoughts of leaving disappear
Each time I see your eyes
No matter how hard I try
To understand the reason why we carry on this way
We're lost in a masquerade
We're lost in a masquerade

Superstar
Leon Russell & Bonnie Bramlett
Long ago, and, oh, so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show.
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear,
but you're not really here.
It's just the radio.
Don't you remember you told me you loved me baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby.
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh, baby.
I love you, I really do.
Loneliness is such a sad affair,
and I can hardly wait to be with you again.
What to say, to make you come again?
Come back to me again, and play your sad guitar.

Stranger in a strange land
Leon Russell-Don Preston
How many days has it been since I was born
How many days until I die
Do I know any ways that I can make you laugh
Or do I only know how to make you cry
When the baby looks around him
It's such a sight to see
He shares a simple secret with the wise man
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why he's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
How many miles will it take to see the son
And how many years until it's done
Kiss my confusion away in the night
Lay by side when the morning comes
And the baby looks around him
And shares his bed of hay
With the burrow in the palace of the king
He's a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why, just a stranger in a strange land
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
Well, I don't exactly know what's going on in the world today
Don't know what there is to say
About the way the people are treating each other
Not like brothers
Leaders take us far away
From ecology
With mithology
And astrology
Has got some words to say about the way we live today
Why can't we learn to love each other
It's time to turn a new face
To the whole world wide human race
Stop the money chase
Lay back
Relax
Get back on the human track
Stop racing toward oblivion
Oh, such a sad sad state we're in and that's a thing
Do you recognize the bells of truth when you hear them ring
Won't you stop and listen to the children sing
Won't you come on and sing it children
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land.

It's all over now, Baby Blue
Bob Dylan
Oh, you must leave now, take what you need,
you think will last.
But whatever you wish to keep, you better grab it fast.
Oh, yonder stands your orphan with his gun,
And a-crying like a fire in the sun.
Oh, look out now the saints are comin' through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
And the highways are for gamblers,
you better use your sense.
Take what you have gathered from coincidence.
and the empty-handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns upon your sheets.
This sky, too, is folding under you
Yeah, it's all over now, Baby Blue.
And that lover who just walked out your door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor.
And the carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
Leave your stepping stones behind,
something calls for you.
And forget the dead you've left,
they will not follow you.
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore.
Strike another match, go start anew
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
I'll tell ya again, it's all over now, Baby Blue

What will I do without you
Leon Russell
I want to sing you this sad song
And I just want you to know
That this music that you hear is just for you
And when you hear this melody
Just know it's you I'm talking to
And tell me what will I do without you?
Oh darlin' please don't judge me
Just remember when you loved me
Before you broke my heart and went away
Now what can I say in my defense
Where you would believe it's true
Well tell me, what will I do without you?
Darlin' it's so hard to forget you
With all this pain inside my heart
I remember the night I met you
I'm wondering why we're so far apart?
Oh darlin' please don't judge me
Just remember when you loved me
Before you broke my heart and went away
Now what can I say in my defense
Where you would believe it's true
Well tell me, what will I do without you?
Yes, tell me what will I do without you?
